Default 2000 Jetta 1.8T Problems

Hello All,

So I recently bought a 2000 Jetta 1.8T, and I'm already having problems with it. I noticed a coolant leak, coming from the back of the motor...and I haven't had time to lift the car yet, but driving to school this morning, i noticed the temp gauge bouncing up and down, and then finally it overheated. The coolant was literally boiling in the resevuar. What could this be from?

Also...As I drive...sometimes the "Oil" light comes on and blinks, then goes away. I notice the car almost "stalling" and then goes back to normal while accelerating. I have a bad feeling, since I've been reading online about the dreaded sludge with the 1.8 motors. Is there anything I can do to take care of this problem also?

Please bare with me, as I am completly new to these cars, and motors. I appreciate ANY help, and time. Thank you much.

-Tim
