1995 Jetta III, looking for some help
Hi guys, i have purchased a 1995 Jetta III for $500 from a friend knowing it had some problems. here's the list.
1- Front bearings were shot so with help from another friend we managed to replace them both for less then $100 (parts cost)
2- I bought the clutch kit and plan on replacing it myself. I would like to know if there are any tricks i should know. The problems its giving me are that the clutch is slipping when floored. It still works pretty well when i don't need to jet off too quickly. however once i get it going at a nice pace when it hits around 4K RPM's i can give it a lot more gas and get very minimal slipping in all gears. (dont worry im replacing it ASAP i just need the free day from work to do it).
3- The car will idle very nicely at just under 1K and sounds like a kitten. The problem is when i throw it into neutral after revving it even the slightest it sputters off and on a few times dropping to less then 500 RPM's and eventually getting back to a nice idle. I checked everything i knew of and cannot figure anything out. also when i have turned a corner it has died on me. I'm guessing the power steering made it drop down too low and it died. It happens every time and dies about once a week but im sure its a condition thing.
4- one last thing, i had found a vacuum hose that had rotted off connecting to an electrical component with vacuum hoses also attached to it and to the thermostat located behind the engine near the firewall. (If you want an emailed picture i can do that). I don't know if its very important because i cant find anything on it, and the book says nothing, and it didn't seem to make a difference when i replaced it.
Im just looking for a little help with these problems. the idle problem is the main thing.
Thanks for your help.
