i just bought an 06 jetta 2.5. one morning the epc light just came on, then later the exhaust system malfunction light lit up, and it started up a lil rough, but idle was fine. the computer in the car(i assume) is the reason the motor wont go over 3k rpm as some sort of default as to not cause more damage. anyone know what the issue is? i was thinking along the lines of bad gas, or a sensor being shot? anyway i could fix it on my own, or pay an arm and a leg for a dealer to fix it?

any info would be great. thanks.

 

Could be an O2 sensor or a bad cat. I really can't see either going out on an 06. I would get the car scanned to see exactly what it is. They should do it for free at the parts store.
