Default 02 Jetta cooling fans

I have a 02 Jetta that has been blowing the metal cooling fan fuse located on top the battery. I don't have a VW dealer near me so I took it to a local mechanic and they ran some tests.

They think it's the fans because when you kick on the air the fans kick on too and they said they were drawing 75 amps. My question is is 75 amps normal when the fans kick on or is it a relay etc?

Thanks for your help.

75 amp sound alot for a cooling fan that would be 75 x 12.5 = 937 watt motor. Does the fan spin freely without being powered?

HI,

I did drive to my VW dealer 200 miles away and they confirmed it was the fans. Now the tough part is finding aftermarket fans. My car is a tiptronic and most auto parts dealers only carry the one for the manual transmission. I am not sure what the difference is. Any ideas on where to buy the dual fans for the tiptronic transmission?
thanks

I'm not sure why a cooling fan with tiptronic transmission is going to be that much different to a manual transmission. I know the transmission oil is cooled through the radiator but thats a different component.

The idea behind the cooling fan is so the engine doesn't overheat while stationary/crawling in traffic.
