Oil Filter

RE: Oil Filter
I own a 2004 TDI Jetta Wagon with the same 2.0 diesel engine. The oil drain plug is on the oil pan beneath the engine as always! You have to remove the skid plate (plastic guard) to get under the engine. BE CAREFUL when u raise the car, make sure you are using the proper lifting areas. LOOK at your owner's manual. The oil filter is right in front of you when you open the engine. look for a round cylinder about 8 " long maybe 3" wide sits right in front when you open hood next to engine. Originally you might need a strap wrench to loosen top - but normally a strong hand will turn it counter clowise to expose dirty filter. It is a drop in paper type filter (no Metal like others). Remember to change O rings which come with filter. IF you are NOT EXPERIENCED mechanic or have not changed oil very often DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS! DO NOT take it to 15 minute oil change place, this car is a differant animal. Your dealer normally will change oil for a cheaper fee the first time or send coupons out in the mail. Ask them for a deal on oil changes........pays to have someone due it right, then have it done wrong and PAY BIG $$$ later. OH YES - USE synthetic OIL ONLY. The car come swith synthetic oil when new..DO NOT switch or it will not be under warranty! I use 10w - 30w Mobil 1 best place to buy is Sam's club unless Murray's has a rebate or it is on sale! [:@]
