Hi guys, quick question for you - my girlfriend is interested in purhasing a new car, she is really looking into getting a Jetta or something. Recently we test drove a 2003 GTI VR6 together, and it really surprised both of us. The car has 50K on the motor and was traded in by an older gentleman that was the original owner of the vehicle. I haven't seen many other GTI VR6's in that era and am pretty new to VW also so any insight on this car would be helpful.

My girlfriend, Kelli, is looking for a daily driver that she can tastefully modify and still have some power on tap. I believe this motor puts out 240hp..? and seems to be quite a strong puller. I am more familiar with BMW's, but I still love all German cars so this may be a good buy for her. Just hoping to get some opinions. Also this car is selling for around 14, but the sales guy we met with arranged a price of 13 flat. Does this sound fair? It is under the blue book value here, and seems to be rather rare. I would rate both the interior and exterior of the vehicle as 9/10 easily. Very sound, and has the 6 speed manual gearbox. All thoughts welcome, thanks again!

 

yea, nice car, its the 24v vr6 engine that has a stock 208bhp. (thats horsepower at the crank) the VW .:R32 is what has the 249. thats a bigger VR6. (24v off an 03 is 2.8L where the .:R32 is 3.2 L) anyways, itll be a nice car, they had all the kinks out by then...pretty much and it will pull hard for years to come. and 13 flat is a good price too....

 

Thanks foxontherun, just one more question. Since this engine does have the 30V, what is the power difference? Unfortunately it isn't the R32 - I had the pleasure of driving one of those once and I was very impressed. However, as this isn't the 24V what can I expect for numbers?

 

yea, do you mind if i have the VIN? cause i promise there is no such thing as a 30v vr6. i will swear my life on it. even the R32 is just 24v. BUT id guess if it were 30v youd be lookin at...i dunno. 220. but the MKIV r32 (after researching this subject last night) only has 224 hp. so there ya go. BUT im not trying to call you a liar at all. i swear, i just think the info might be wrong or imput incorrectly. so id love to have the VIN and i can tell you everything about it. or prove myself wrong!! haha. im always up for learning sdomething new.
