GTI engine problems

i have an 03 gti 20th anniversary and all of a sudden the CEL came on and the engine is all boggy and rough. seems like its choking. the whole engine shakes. coild it be the catalytic converter?

Could be a thousand things. Get the car scanned to see what that CEL is all about.
