hey, my golf mark 3 1993 model wont start, the problem is that when you attempt to start it when the keys fully over the iginition lights come on and the car trys to start. however when letting go of the key the ignition lights turn off and the car does not start. anyone have any ideas what could be wrong with my car!

could be a number of things...check them in this order

battery
alternator
starter
