Default Urgent help needed please!!

Hi all, well I love my retro cars and when a 1992 1.8 CL came up in good condition I had to have it.

Problem is that after a week im having problems starting it. It starts fine first thing in the morning when cold but if you turn it off the try to restart it you have to turn it over alot and it doesnt fire up but more splutter.

If I take my foot off the throttle when its spluttering it will cut out, if I keep my foot planted and drive off its ok???

Also when it splutters it throws out smoke too

When moving the engine is smooth and powerfull, hopefully this is a common problems that you experts have encountered.

Any help or advice please

Thanks

I have a 97 that does the same, I replaced the coil and all was good.
There was a split on the underside of the casing, if the humidity was high or condensation in the morning, it was terrible thing to start.
Should you hit a puddle while driving it would stop altogether.
I hope this helps.

Yeah, them coils after many years start to show cracks on the plastic. The old ones were better made....
