Default Timing issue HELP!!

So I decided to mess with the timing on my golf. I removed the 13mm bolt and plate that holds the distributor, and I rotated the distributor clockwise.I test drove the car check engine light came on and lost power car was weak. I placed the dist. back in its original setting and my check engine light is still on.I tried to reset battery but its still on. what can I do??
thank you

Well if you've had a EOBD scanner plugged in did it show any error codes, if so please post them?

We need to know more details about your motor?
