Default Stock Alarm

Ok hi.

So here's my problem, i just bought myself a 1995 Volkswagen Gold CL 2 Hatchback 1.8L 5-speed. It has a stock alarm on it but it doesn't work sometimes. I only have 1 key that unlocks and lock my doors. The other day i went to lock my door and surprisingly the alarm was activated for the first time, i saw the little red light blinking on the driver door. I only got it to work once and now i can't seem to do it again no matter how hard i try.

Advice?
