Default I have a 2.0 engine what performance options do i have?

I am wondering if anyone has some links or tips on building one of these engines up. I want a strong and balanced short block (Balanced and Blueprinted) maybe a slight Bore, and performance grade pistons and rods. Wondering what to do with the Compression Ratio and that depends on weather I want to put a Turbo or leave it Naturally Aspirated. I would like a strong Naturally Aspirated, but I would probably love a Turbo as well.
As for the Head, I want to have the redline reach 8-9 k RPM, so wondering if there is a set of Titanium or other Valve and spring set to increase RPM range.
Open to tips on Intake and Exhaust Manifolds for performance.

I would love to see some, what my "Engines" teacher, told me about 'proven applications' or basically, a set of parts to build an engine with that works. I know that building an engine with a bunch of good parts does not equal optimum performance, rather it is about understanding the technical subtleties and building the engine based on an equation, and that everything down to the Valve seat angles needs to be in alignment with the rest of the design.
Thank you

Default Mk3? Lot's of options.

I assume we are talking an Mk3?

For the 2.0, you can do a LOT. I have a 1.8...can hardly do anything. With all cars 90's and up, first step is upgrading or chipping your ECU. Unitronic specialises in Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche; check em out. Without getting the ECU to match what your hardware is doing, all the other stuff is having barely any effect, and the car may not even run (computer is programmed to run at stock specs, change bore and stroke for example, and the specs have changed).

Look at getting more aggressive camshaft, as well. I was surprised how cheap they were for the 2.0 Mk3; that will get you higher compression. Combine those components with upgraded valves, intake manifold, exhaust, intake, pistons...and you are looking at a mean machine.

Check out techtonicstuning.com; they seem to have a lot of performance parts you can't find elsewhere.

Default Turbo, Bore

This is my own personal opinion, but I wouldn't change the bore, or add a turbo to a car that isn't designed to have one stock. I've known a lot of people who destroyed their engines or cut their car's lifespan in half. With boring, it HAS to be done perfectly, and with turbos, make sure the other components are replaced. Cooling system, lubrication system, and intake/fuel/exhaust system have to be able to handle the extra force and heat a turbo brings.
