Default Headlights don't work after replacing brake lights

Two days ago I replaced both brake lights on my 2001 VW Golf. Last night I discovered that neither of my headlights, which were both replaced less than 8 months ago, are working. My daytime running lights have also ceased to function. My high beams still work just fine. The fuses all look okay, but I don't have any spares on hand to try swapping them.

It seems a bit too coincidental for two fairly new headlamps to blow out at the same time I was replacing lights elsewhere. Does anyone know if I could have jostled something in the rear while replacing the brake lights that could cause this problem? I'm a little stumped by what do to next, but I'd hate to take it to a mechanic if it's something simple that I'm overlooking.
