As it sits now I have a 1985 volkswagen golf 1.8L 8V. Yesterday I picked up a 1.8L 16V from a Volkswagen Scirocco (not entirely sure what year). I believe that the blocks are the same and that the transmission will mate up correctly, but are there any differences that I don't know about (for example, are there different splines on the transmission input shaft on each engine, or did they possibly have different gear ratios)?

I'm having trouble running across this information openly on the internet...
