Documenting the resurrection of my 89 Golf
Hi everybody, I wanted to share this experience with more experienced car enthusiasts. So here's the jyst; I broke my other car and now I am going to try to get my old 1989 VW Golf 2 Door GL Hatchback fixed. I'm taking it to my Uncle's friend's shop. He swears by him. I'm bartering my web developing skills for the services and I want to be able to gauge what labor he does for me so that it is fair and I also want to know where to find the best deals for parts too because I don't think he's nearly as web savvy as I am!
That's where you guys come in. I was hoping to get feedback as this goes along because I don't have any clue as to what's fair in his field. We just dropped it off at his shop tonight. I don't know when he's gonna get started on it. I couldn't afford to get it fixed before, so it sat in one spot for about a year and a half. So I can only imagine what could be wrong with it now. Before the major issue was the Distributor. He said it would be $360 or something like that. Not to mention all the little stuff wrong with it. It hit the $800 range and now I'm gonna have $1000 playing room for the website. Hopefully it will be ok. I noticed the tires are prolly messed up and need to be replaced. Is there a junkyard near L.A. that would have parts for cheap? Even seats? Wheels? I'm shooting out ideas. Lemme know...
