Question dash panel lights stay on constantly

Was wondering if anyone has got any clues. I got a Golf 2.0 gti on a 99 plate and whilst driving down the motorway one day there was a longish beep and the centre screen displayed an airbag malfunction. Simutaneously i noticed that all the dash warning lights were on i mean everything from the battery and oil pressure light to the washer bottle and unfortunately so is the ABS light everything stays on constantly until you turn the ignition off. Occasionally when you start the car the warning lights go out for a moment but then come on again and thats it. I took it to an independant dealer who wasnt sure about it and told me it has flagged up a side airbag fault but thinks the dash fault could be the dash.... though he had never seen this before and he said his Pal at VW hadn't either. Anybody had this fault before or got any ideas??? do you think its worth trying a dash panel. Any input is greatly appreciated

Thanx

They hadn't heard of this before? I've answered so many questions about this and 90% of the time it's a failing battery or a 10% chance that it's the headlight switch.
