RE: cranks but wont fire, please help me!!
Hey Man I don't hate you at all. I think your doing a
great thing, trying to get it going and don't know much,
got to admire your courage. Sounds like you may be getting close to the points but not yet, If it has them they
are under the plate your looking at. Some will only have a
pick up coil, don't let this confuse you, were still trying to
find the little set of points. Remove the round cover under
the rotor button. It's a thin plastic plate that just lifts off.
After you find this area we will go from there. If your getting current at the coil, leave it alone for now.

Hey man, I admire you for trying, Sounds like your in the
correct area. If it has points they will be under the little
round plate your looking at, remove the rotor button and
lift up the plastic plate, you will see the points or a pick up
coil, dont' let this confuse you, were still looking for points.
When you locate them we will go from that point. If it has
current at the coil, leave it alone for now. I don't thing it's
going to be the problemcritter anyway.

Man I didn't catch that page 2 thing, and was wondering
where my post went to.
That plate to remove shouldn't be metal. it should be
plastic, but it may have been removed and thrown away
a long time ago, the plastic cover is just a dust cover
and if it's gone it wont hurt. This site will let you post
pictures, you may have to snap one or two so I can see
what your looking at. ( down inside the distributor )

i see i see...so i am geting spark from the coil, so the distributor points and lobes arent the problem eh? what else could cause such a problem. i ordered a distributor and relay #109 for the ecm. what else could be the problem? ecm? or do you think the distributor is worth the shot?

OK that distributor does not have points, yours is a newer
version, it has a pick up coil, The black thing at the side
is the gap and the coil will be under the metal plate, see the
square gaps in the rotating plate ? When they pass the
little pointer it causes a pulse for the ignition, I do hate to
suggest a new distributor because that may not do it, but
that one is a lot rusted and doesn't look well at all. It would
be nice if you had a loner just to try, and you will also have
to set the timing, you will need a Hanes book and tools to
get past that one. By the way the huge picture worked out
great , I could see the little stuff better. When that pick up
coil goes bad it wont fire a lick, the rust can short it out.
Good luck, I guess we are at a point where you have to
try the next step.
