Question 2002 won't run but 2 secs after battery discharge

Hi,

My son left on the lights on his 2002 Golf 2.0 and it drained the battery.
Using starter cables, it will start right up, but only run for about 2 seconds, and then die. It's not sputtering or anything, it starts and fires on all 4, and then it is as if the ignition is turned off. No check engine light, so there aren't any codes to read.
Any clues?
Thanks.

Update: I took the battery out and charged it overnight, then had it tested - it tests good.
Put the charged battery back in the car - same problem.
Any ideas?
Thank you.

It sounds like the immobilizer is on which means it will run for 2 seconds then stop, the immobilizer light on the dash will also be lit. You need to find someone with VAG-COM\VCDS to do a diagnosis scan and post the results.

Keith,
Thanks for your reply, you were correct. I couldn't wait any longer, so we had it towed and the shop had to reprogram the key.
Took them all but 5 minutes, and cost me $160.
What a rip-off!
