Looking at buying a used 1996 Golf GI tomorrow. I think it is a good deal but have to wait and see. The one problem that they have told me about is that the Auto tranny went out so they got one from a '94 Jetta and put it in. It now runs at high rpm's at 55 mph. What the seller is saying is that I will need to buy a new tranmission modular for a '93-'94 Jetta for ~$100 and replace the present one and that will solve the problem. Last VW I owned was a '68 VW Campmobile so I don't if this is mright or not. Could the old chip be flashed or reprogramed instead? The nearest VW dealer is 100 miles away so it would be hard to get there. Any help will be appreciated.
