Default Help Cabriolet wont run

I have a 1990 Cabriolet 2 door convertible that has been sitting since 1999 I have recently replaced the engine then I set the timing and the fuel pump is working but when I try to start it, it is getting fuel up to the engine but not through the injection unit and its not returning fuel, if you spray with starting fluid the car will start to run then quits. Any ideas would be appreciated.

try using some crc or seafoam. Get the engine running with some starter fluid and then, using the vacuum line coming off of the air intake, suck up some of the seafoam or crc. This will run it straight through the injectors which may be clogged. Let me know if this works.

I've got the same issue, picked up a 2000 model with 37k on the clock.... but it has sat since October 2008 in a temp controlled storage! lol

Fuel system was completely dry, poured in 4 gallons of fresh fuel + can of sea foam. it sputtered a few times like it was beginning to start but now only with starting fluid. Going to pull the tank & fuel pump then bench test the pump today, is there anything else I might look for I.E. fuel pump safety/cutoff switch etc.?

call your local vw dealer, mwmatters that's about the most ignorant thing you can say here, what a cute comment from you...

why do you think were all here in the 1st place? is to avoid the dealer and save a few 500 bucks here an there....

anyways the fix was pretty tedious pulling the pump only to find out there was some old fuel that turned to a glue like substance. Cleaned the old pump out, bench tested it, works like a charm. I just can't believe VW cannot keep it simple when designing a fuel pump... But none the less, all this saved me 350.00 @ autozone, and 1500.00 from the vw dealer....
