Default (check) symbol is permanently on the instrument panel.

When engiine is started, the (check) symbol appears permanently on the instrument panel until engine is off. There is no transmission noise, no difficulty in selecting or changing gear. Gear oil is good and measured at maximum. The check symbol is about automatic transmission solenoid. There is no cranking over the weeks except the check symbol remains on the instrument panel until or unless the engine is put off. Advise. The car is VW Cabrio convertible 1998.
