Angry '96 Cabrio Mk3 seat belt chime when 12v lighter socket used

Something strange started happening with my Cabrio out the blue... when car is running and on and if i plug a GPS unit into the cigarette lighter socket the seat belt / open door chime goes.... I unplug it and it instantly stops

It was working fine and i have used that GPS and socket plug before no issues - the GPS unit does get power and runs but the dang chime does not **** off ...

any suggestions whats causing it and why? and or what relay ( and where can i pull to stop the chime / alarm sound?

Default Welcome to Volkswagen Forum - Rules & Recommendations

You need to get your motor scanned (preferably with VAG-COM\VCDS) for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them, that will save a lot of guessing.

You can check to alarm chime settings when you open the door.
