new engine for a '74 super beelte
I have recently bought a Beetle with a stock 1600cc engine. As my imagination starts to wonder and I start to plan out what I want to do to this car and one thing pops out; I want to put a better engine in it.
The problem is that I want the most power I can get without sacrificing any part of the trunk. (or maybe hood. to be quit honest Im not sure how to categorize it. XD) what should I get?

Welcome to the forum. 
Well there are plenty of companies that do a 1700 big bore for the 1600. There is a 2.0 air cooled but I'm not sure if it would fit your gearbox.
