Default How to lock our '71 Bettle's boot?

Hi. Recently we bought a '71 Beetle, which we're extremely happy with. Everything seems to be OK with it apart from two issues:
1. It seems we don't have the right key for its engine compartment. Your forum advises to visit a locksmith and hopefully he could help us. Wouldn't it be easier to get a new latch and if yes where from?
2. We were really surprised that obviously the boot is not supposed to be locked at all. Probably this car has been designed for times very different from ours.
Or probably we're just not able to find out how it works.
Anyway could anyone recommend something more acceptable than placing a padlock on it ?
Thanks!

The boot you have to deal with.
The lock, just buy one from www.wolfsburgwest.com
They have them all.
Good luck!
