Default Getting a new bug

So I'm going to buy a '71 Beetle from my uncle. He says it runs well, but idles rough. Aside from fixing this, is there anything I should check right away before driving it too much. I'll give it a good test drive, but should there be specific things to check? I'm also planning on replacing the sunroof seal so I don't get wet this winter.

I think I would check the transaxle fluid, if it needs some I think
80w-90w GL5was what it takes, or in that area. Of course it's a car everything on it should be checked out.
