I have a 71 super beetle and it was running great until the pin came out of the fuel pump and the carb ran out of gas. I put a new pump on it and now the car will not idle and runs rough, I cannot understand why because all I did was put a new fuel pump on it. does anybody have any suggestions what it could be? i would try new spark plugs and a compression test while i had the plugs out

 

If im not mistaken that model had a vaccum line that plugs on
the intake just under the carb and just above the fuel pump. the
other end went to a dash pot on the drivers side of the engine
compartment, look for a vac hose off.
