I can't really tell you as I've never owned a 70 bug.

It must have a bonnet release inside doesn't that work or has the cable broken?

Default 70 bug, hood will not open

Hi. I experienced difficulty opening my hood today and need to understand how I can deal with fix it? It opens once out of each multiple times I attempt to pull the switch. I splashed the hooking instrument on the hood and worked the system to and fro. I reclosed the hood and it would not open once more. You can hear the hood discharge clicking when I pull on the switch, however it isn't remaining open I presume. I have the first paper glove box.

Smile Might be able to help

I once owned a 1972 Super Beetle that had a similar problem. When I would pull the trunk release in the glove box I could hear the lock disengage but over 50% of the time by the time I could get around to the front of the car to open the trunk it would not open. However if someone held lever down the release latch I could open the trunk. The spring that was involved in the opening of the trunk needed adjusting. I wish I could remember how I resolved the problem, it was 36 years ago. But maybe this will get you on the right track.
