Exclamation 1973 Super Beetle Electrical Problem

H, I just joined the forum.
I have a 1973 Super Beetle and have owned it since 2014. It has sat a couple of years without starting. Yesterday I put in a new battery, changed the fuel filter, put in fresh gas and installed a new carb. Sprayed some starter fluid in the carb and the engine would not fire up even though it turns over easily. So I started by looking to see if I had forgot to reconnect any wires to the ignition coil, seems ok.I also observed that when I open either front door or door to the engine the lights do not come on, the buzzer does not buzz and the safety belt light does not come on.The headlights, turn signals and brake lights do work. After looking at the fuse box I it looked OK but did not test with OHM meter.
This all seems very odd to me. Any thoughts on what to do next? I'm not a very experienced mechanic but am learning so please don't use any abreviations that I may not understand. This is my 3rd Super Beetle, my first one was a 1972 and my first car, and have never had a problem like this.

Update. I now have everything except the horn and spark to the engine. If only I could find my repair manual. Maybe I'll replace the coil tomorrow and see what happens.
