Default 2006 new beetle covertible top drainage?

my top is showing lot of stress marks from use. going to get new one soon.
the question I have to ask is: the metal trim on the rear has a channel for water it goes to the rear side windows to end .NOW I looked near the window and it is not attached to the metal trim on both sides???
is this a ripped area or for draining the trough ??? when it does... is there a drain to the bottom of the car ?...
thank you
