Default 2001 Gls Turbo ASR issue please help!!!

I absolutely love this car and I am about to pull my hair out with this problem. At first this light on my dashboard would come on, its a little circle with an arrow and a triangle inside the circle and an exclamation point inside the triangle (I believe this is the ASR indicator), that light would come on and suddenly half of my cars power would go away. I would turn the car off and back on and the power would be back. Now it has gotten so bad that the light never goes off and there is almost no power at all, and even when it just idling it is really jerky as if it is skipping. I'm at the point where I'm almost ready to just slap a for sale sign on it and get rid of this thing. Can anyone help with what might be the issue?

You really need to find someone with VAG-COM\VCDS to do an Autoscan to see what error codes come back as there is no point in guessing and spending a fortune on parts that aren't needed.

You don't say where you live but in the States AutoZone will do a free scan.

Well man, I took it to volkswagen and they charged me 120 bucks to tell me it was reading throttle body codes, so I just put a new throttle body on it and no difference. Still messing up.. I did replace a vaccum line that had a cut in it and the problem stopped for a short while but came back about 2 weeks later, I check that line again and nothing is wrong with it... so I'm really confused as to what to do now.

Can you remember the error codes that came back?

If its costing 120 bucks for each visit to a dealer then your better of buying your own VCDS, three trips and it paid for.

Honestly, I've had it scanned several times and no one ever gives me anything useful. I'm just about to start replacing stuff until I find the issue. What do you suggest I start with?

So you've never seen any error codes reported?

Without an error code then its going to be a costly business until you find the component.
