Default 1970 Squareback Question

Hey guys, brand new to the forum here. Honestly, don't own my first VW yet, but I'm leaning towards it and working at it hard. My daily driver decided to start throwing fits, which drove me to look for a new vehicle. I was thinking a 70's Beetle, until I stumbled upon a Squareback from 1970. It currently does not work, because the nutter of an owner decided to rip the motor apart over an electrical issue. So, it's relatively cheap, but requires serious work. Of which I am very used to and accustom. However, I would love to tweak the thing into becoming a great sleeper for my daily drive. I'm thinking a 2.4L Porsche Flat-4 with twin turbos will give it serious pep, but in a car this old it would be a argues task. So, I'm just curious as to the complete pain the rear this project would become if I decide to go with a modern Porsche motor verses a classic air cooled Porsche motor.
