Default New Beetle Owner

Hello to everyone.
My name is Jay and I'm an antique car lover. While I'm new to restoring VWs, I'm not new to driving them. I drove a 1972 VW bus in college, and a 1974 Type 2 sedan shortly there after. My father-in-law drove a '57 Beetle for years until my lovely wife totaled it driving home from college. He still has it in the garage - even though it's only good for a parts vehicle, and I still have my wife - she rolled it on a bridge guardrail and is lucky to be alive. I have restored a 1951 Chevy PU, and I'm currently working on a many-years long project of restoring a 1942 M3A1 White Scout Car - one of only about 20 left in the USA. It looks very similar to an M3 Halftrack and weighs a little under 6 tons.
I came across a nice 1971 VW Beetle resting up in Oklahoma that is about 99.5 percent intact for only $50.00. It hasn't been tagged since 1991, the right rear fender is badly bent, but otherwise a wonderful project for my teenager and I.
I have a great number of leads for parts and a good friend has a great knack for rebuilding anything VW.
Happy New Year and let the fun begin!
