91 cabriolet just stalls while driving
I'm sitting at a stop light and the engine just quits. I go to restart, cranks over just fine, but it won't fire. I pushed it off the road. After pondering what to do for 10 minuites or so, I turn the key and it fires up. A week later and many miles later, I'm on the interstate doing 70mph, and again , the motor just quits. I coast to a stop open the hood and look for anything that may have come loose. I reseated every plug I could find, including fuses and relays, and nothing. It cranks but won't fire up. While waiting for the werecker (20 minuites) I turn the key and it starts. I am 200 miles from home and decide to go for it. It ran fine all the way.
Now I'm afraid to drive it. Where do I begin?
I did take it to a vw shop and they told me it could be very hard (and expensive) to figure out because it currently runs fine.
Ideas?
I've read that the fuel pumps and relays do fail on these things. But would they began to work again after sitting?
Also I was told that the fuse bank might be at fault. But again , it starts and runs again.
Anybody have any ideas where to begin? I'm not afraid to replace parts on my baby, I'm just trying to not rebuild the entie car and still not find the problem.
