88 Cabrio Should I Purchase?
I am looking at an 88 Carbrio with unknown mileage, although it was advertised at 105k (Carfax report showed problem of some sort with odometer back when it had 115k on it. Carfax also showed it made in Germany). Body has only one spot of rust on bottom inside corner of passenger side door, everywhere else is clean, even under spare tire in trunk. Top looks good, some mildew, but still fits well. Has cover for top when it's down. Stick shift is very hard to shift. There is a whining sound coming from area of alternator. I don't think timing belt has been done. Dash lights are very dim. There is a rattle from fan, but the guy has a new fan for me. The passenger side little fold-out window is stuck closed. Has original brochure from day it was purchased, along with some paper work from repairs and boxes of parts. Hood and bumpers are different shade of red, so have clearly been replaced. He is asking $4500. I don't want a project car. Already I know I need to offer less, as it does not have 105k for mileage. I hear these can run with 300k on odometer? Thoughts on overall car?
