Hello: I'm Larry and am new to this forum. This is my third Vw, (previously a 1980 scirocco, an 88 Jetta), and now this 81 Cabriolet. I bought this one several years ago as anon runner . Got it running and it ran good for about 6 months, then one hot day last summer day it died while driving.. I determined I was not getting fuel to the engine . Replaced fuel pump and relay, but still sound from the fuel pump. Research on Internet told me to run a jumper wire from the control pressure regulator lead to the positive battery terminal. Well, it started right up. I'm at a loss on what to do next.
