custom interior
i have a 2000 black golf and im trying to accent it with red. i want to take the inside console out like around the stereo and the heating/cooling dials and paint them red and clear coat them. Since the console is covered in a thin layer of what seems to be a rubber-like material, would anyone know how to go about painting it without making it look like garbage? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated thanks.

RE: custom interior
hey i don't know how much help this would be but i remember reading somewhere about a guy who found this chemical that removed that rubbery stuff with like a brilo pad, i would look into something like that... maybe goof off?

RE: custom interior
I used a 3M Scotch Brite Pad...
I you use this it will scratch the panel under the Latex paint. What i did was ordered matching paint and Auto body gloss for my MK4 Golf then i painted the pieces. (after removing them from my car)
Its VERY easy and adds a nice touch!

i have a degree in automotive collision and management. which is a fancy way of saying paint and body. anytime you paint any kind of plastics or anything like that you need to scuff them with a scotch bright pad. then spray them with an adhesion promoter. u can get this in rattle can form. paint them with whatever color you want, whether it be with a paint gun, or a rattle can. you can also get some single stage paint in a rattle can as well. otherwise buy some paint and some clear.
