Default Torque converter

Does anyone know what the symptions are for a bad torque converter. I have a 98 Passat 1.8T with a tiptronic tranny. When the car heats up has a harsh upshift and downshift in first gear. Also when driving about 50 k/hour, and letting go of the gas... the gar jerks. It is quite annoying. Took it to 4 tranny places including dealer. There are no codes. The only answers i got were. Change the fluid, or change the torque converter, or change the valve body. Please Help.....

Thanks

fluid flush and filter is so much cheaper than any other option probably up $100 i would definately do that first then go from there. they recommend them at either 75k or 100k miles i'm not sure
