So Im replacing the ECM in my 2003 GTI. I can see it, i just cant get to it. It looks like Im going to have to remove the plastic piece below the windshield. I have already taken the wipers off but i cant figure out how to get that piece off to get to it? Anybody know how thsts done?

You should be able to gently pull it off. The plastic trim its just clipped into a groove below the windscreen. Once you have the ecm replaced you will need to get the immobiliser coded to the ecm or the engine wont start. I am a VW technitian. Any more problems feel free to ask

 

The ecm I just bought is used, but its out of a 03 jetta 1.8t with and automatic transmission. It also has the same exact part number. Will i have a problem when i take it to VW to have it programmed for my car?

 

I just replaced the ecu in my car durring the week. If the part number and the engine code the car came out of are the same you shouldnt have any problems. If the engine codes are different then the ecu wont work. As the ecu can only be coded once and it cant be changed to run a different engine. If they are the same then all vw needs to do is code the immobiliser to the ecu.
