Smile Need Help with 1999 VW Bug problem.

Hi ..New to this forum. My 1999 VW Bug is bogging down and smells like sulfur. Anyone have any idea why this is happening? I would rather see if I can fix it myself as dealers charge WAY too much for repairs!
Appreciate any help out there. Thanks
Dave.

Smile More info.

Hi racer, When I start the car up it does not run correctly. It runs real rough and I have to press on the gas more which eases the shaking a little bit.. It shakes while sitting in the driveway and it is also loud and it shakes while driving. The check engine light flashes while shifting gears (It is a GL 5 speed manual shift) and then stays on after all gears have been shifted. I have had the oxygen sensor replaced 3 times since I purchased the car (in 2004) and I have a feeling that this is the cause again but I am not too positive on this. If you have a different theory on this, I would appreciate it very much but if the sensor is the problem, is it easy to replace as I just called a few different auto shops and they all want in excess of $200 to replace? Also, how many oxygen sensors are on a 1999 beetle and where are they?
Cheers.
Dave.
