Central locking on 97 Jetta/ installing cd changer

Central locking on 97 Jetta/ installing cd changer
When using yhe central locking button on Jetta I just picked up, I can hear a noise coming from trunk area but car does't lock up. What do I look for?
Also puting in a sony cd changer.Car already has aftermarket radio/cd. Anything I need to do or will it hook up with out worrying about codes?
