Default ASR, EPC

I own a 2001 Turbo Beetle GLS 1.8. The problem I'm having is the ASR (antislip regulation) light is coming on while I'm driving and almost simultaneously the EPC (electronic power control) light comes on too, and almost inmediately there's a noticeable reduction of power in the car, that goes from 65 mph to 45 mph and it takes quite a bit of time (three times more than normal) to go back up to 65mph. My question is why? and what is the function of these two sensors (ASR & EPC). Thanks!!

If my thinking is correct, the ASR is basically traction control, and the other takes away power when you lose traction so the car can regain traction. I have no idea why it would be doing it at those speeds though, mine has only done it when taking off and maybe a little in second gear but only when really getting on it. Sounds like something is wrong with those sensors, have you tried turning off the ASR? ( the button on the Dash) i dont know what else to suggest other than letting a professional look into it, i havent had any experience with this
good luck
