98 Jetta window problem
I have a 98 Jetta Wolfsburgh that the windows go down when I shut the car off. Car also beeps 3 times while driving. I already replaced the door latch which I was told was the problem. Still doing the same thing. What else might be the problem?
First, let me say that I have replaced 3 at over $300 a pop. I was not aware when I bought my Jetta late in 98, that it was a known issue that while driving, your window could fail by falling into your door panel with a loud grinding "Clunk." If I was aware of this, I would have been concerned. And, if I was aware of how lousy VW would be on helping pay for it (They didn't- I can provide case numbers), I would have thought twice. One VW lover who have come here to "discuss" this, has stated that this is not a serious issue. I disagree. When this was my only car, having this happen meant I would be late or unable to go to work. Who is going to leave their car at a park-and-ride, metro station, or in any city with a broken window? I wouldn't even want to leave my car in the rain with a broken window. I could tape the window up, but having paid extra for the CD player, it seems like a bad idea.
So, this means I have to drive it to the dealer. Now, if they can give me a ride or take me to work I am only "late". If they can't, I'm taking the day off. This is not because I am "picky" or "whinny", but because I respect my car and try to take good care of it.
Now, because I do a good job at work and stand behind what I create, I would expect VW to cover this repair. I would think: I paid extra for these windows.. I never abused them.. never put them down on icy days.. Heck, they should last more than 3yrs! I guess thinking like this makes me a jerk or a crybaby? Okay, fine. I'm a crybaby who thinks VW should pay for $900 worth of bad windows. I know I am not alone on this.Let me state clearly that I am not saying all VWs will have this problem. I believe I heard that VW has redesigned this on later years. But, I'm almost a grand down on an issue that really shouldn't have happened on a car at this "quality" level (meaning it retailed for almost double a Ford Focus). Is my car a lemon. No, I don't think it is. But, if I had known how much I would have to spend on it, I never would have bought it.What I am saying to people who surf here wondering if they should buy a VW is look at both sides of the argument. And, I'm glad this site is here so that you can get both sides. I was a VW lover, before all of these failures started happening out of warantee. You will not find me on the pro-VW sites. I have no interest in harrassing people. But, if anyone is interested in hearing about my bad luck and bad treatment by VW, I will share the problems I have had.
