71 Super Beetle

71 Super Beetle
OK...I have a 71 Superbeetle. Pretty good condition overall.
I have a few challenges.
1. I have a rebuilt 1600cc stock engine...that is almost completely stock except for the round after market air filter. Can I add an HEI distributor to this engine and give it some oomph? What else can I do?
2. The passenger door was at some time prior to me owning it...wrenched forward on its hinges spraining the door in that direction. It is now difficult to close and does not completely seal when closed.
3. The hood does not completely latch where you need to spriong it fomr the inside to release it. It latches enough to hld shut when driving...but is easily opened when parked.
Any hints...ideas, suggestions?
Thanks,
Tim

RE: 71 Super Beetle
1. couldnt tell you on that one. my guess, is yes.
2. sounds like you need to remove the hinges and find a new set, also find a new door or else see if the door is fixable.
3. new spring pin if applicable and rerun the cable. its always best to do this with 30+ year old cars. I have found that the bicycle cable is cheap and easy to rerun.
hope i have helped. my knowledge is limited on that particular model, but i can look at one in my backyard if you need stuff.
