Default VW Caravelle 2.5 TDI 2002

Hiya,

I have a 2002 caravelle 2.5TDi with a 5 speed manual gearbox that is banjaxed.

I was hoping that someone may be able to advise re the various codes of gearbox?

My code is EWB but what is the difference with ref to the other codes. Are they just different gear ratios or do I have to locate a gearbox with a EWB code?

Many thanks,

Mark.

Well the EWB transmission is only fitted to 2 models.

California 04/01-09/93 Tech Info 5S
Transporter 04/01-09/93 Tech Info 5S

Its funny its fitted to your 2002 model, there are quite a few Tech Info 5S.

Thanks for that Keith, although I am a little confused. The info with the vehicle states Engine code as AJT and Gearbox code as EWB.

Do you think it is possible that an EWB is fitted or are they only on the two types mentioned by yourself?

Many thanks,

Mark.

I'm not sure Mark I can only show you what ETKA shows, you can show all engine codes and all tranmission codes but not on the same page.

The Options sticker which is in the service book. If you don't have the service book the other half of that sticker in on the boot floor next to the spare wheel well if the spare whell is there.

The engine code is BWA and the transmission code is JLW, paint code is LB9A the rest are p-codes that you type into the link below.

If you want to know what all the Options codes mean type them into VW/Audi/Seat/Škoda Option Codes Decoder this is all thing that were fitted to that vehicle when it left the factory.

Hi there Keith.

Yes I have that info in the service book.

For BWA read AJT, for JLW read EWB.

For LB9A read LY3D and for TK read AP.

This is why I am surprised that the EWB was only used on two vehicles, neither of which are mine.

I have found a box but it is in Poland and very expensive but the ad states that it can be used as a replacement for an EWA, EWB, DUH or a DUJ. Which makes me think I can search for any of these BUT what is the difference? Is it gear ratio's but the mountings are the same or is there bigger differences between each code?

Regards,

Mark.
