looking for JUST an extra key. No fob
I recently got a 2013 tiguan. It came with 2 key fobs. I was looking to hide a spare key on the vehicle with a magnetic hideaway box in case I get locked out (recently happened with our Kia). Since the VW key fobs can be pricey, I was looking to try and get JUST a key cut for the car. Basically, something that would simply unlock the doors. this way, if it gets lost, its not as expensive to replace.
I see these key cutting kiosks in my area. I tried to do this with my 2017 Kia key and as I suspected, the machine could not cut it right there. Instead, it had to be specially cut. since they had a blue print of my key (from inserting it into the machine) they apparently could mail me a copy of the key for a $25 fee. I didn’t do it at the time, but may consider it for both cars.
was just wondering if others may have done this for JUST a copy of a VW key (with no fob) for the purpose of opening doors. Good, bad, etc?
