Default worn ignition switch barrel

1996 B4 Passat 1.9 TDI saloon.

For the past 5-6 years the ignition switch has been getting harder and harder to get the car going.
Recently if it does not start when I turn the key as normal I have to turn to normal then push to 2 o clock then push again to 12 o clock.
I spoke to Bridgend Garage in Stonehouse and described the problem.
He reckoned it was the barrel not the switch.
So I ordered a new switch.
Replaced the switch by removing the steering column and the problem is the same so Bridgend Garage were correct.
The old switch looks fine and contact point where the barrel connects to the switch is normal.

To solve the problem I need a new barrel which means new keys and probably reprogramming the alarm I think?
Cost is £200 plus I think.
Am I right?

Is it worth it?
