Restting codes on Passats
On some cars the error codes can be reset by disconnecting the negative terminal to the battery and letting it sit without battery connection for awhile, maybe even hours. Does anyone know whether this method works on VW 1.8T engines? On ours, the "check engine light" is always on and the "Emissions Workshop!" code always pops on the digital screen for a few seconds after the car is started, but there does not seem to be any issue with the way the car is running. Thanks.

Sorry this is an old thread but no one has given a reply?
Well until you fix the problem the code is showing (what code is showing?) it doesn't matter how many times you try to reset/delete the code it will be found again. Its a misconception that deleting the code does a magical repair on the fault. It may do for a period of time until the same running situation happens.
No disconnecting the battery won't reset the code and therefore the MIL lamp lighting?
