Default Reliability of '99 Passat? Potential first car.

Hey guys, new to the forum and don't know a great deal about VW.

Anyway, I have been scoping a 1999 passat 1.8T GLS wagon with 97k miles. They are listing it at $5,500. Wanted to hear some opinions on the overall reliability of the car and whether this looks like a good deal or not. Where abouts does the MPG fall? Car looks very clean and has relaitevly low miles for a 99.

I guess the "big" thing I am looking to become well versed in is the potential "watch out" issues that may arise with a passat of this year and with 97k miles on it.

Thanks and any info./opinions are appreciated! If you need to know a bit more in detail about the car to answer the question, let me know!

Go to ecstuning.com I have been recommened to this site and they have awesome deals and pretty much any parts you need. Get the hitachi coils if you get some they work good. And stay post to this forum, there is alot of good help on here. Good luck with the car!
