Default Passat ignition problem

Ok so i bought this 2001 Passat 1.8 gasoline turbo four door that was leaking coolant. It drove home. It then sat for months. I replaced all the hoses and went to start the car, and all the lights come on but the car will not turn over.
My dad then goes out the next day and the car starts right up, runs. and when he shut it off, it started right back up again. I get home from work and then go to start the car and the lights come on, dash messages all come on but no ignition. The key is not the original with the keyless entry but fits and starts the car when it will. Is this some type of anti theft problem? what can i do to fix it? any help would be appreciated thank you.

Is the immolibizer light flashing on the dash?

If it is then it will only run for 1-2 seconds.

You really need to find someone with VAG-COM\VCDS to scan for error codes.

Try looking for parts here http://www.parts4euro.com/DCShop/index.php?cPath=1 if you're trying to save up some cash...I also had problems with my dear passat but now everything's fine :P

I just purchased a 2006 Passat recently and i face ignition problem. I push the fob, and did not catch the same at the start and stop ignition. The last few times after trying several times, more and more discouraged, I switched the fob to start no problem. I hope it has something to do with the cold weather.
