Passat Failed MOT on emmissons.

Hi, My brother in law has a passat that failed its mot on emmissions, aparrently not by a lot. its a v reg 1.8 petrol. done 154,000 miles.

Any ideas what problem could be?

Could be many things. The only way to really find out would be to buy a fault code scanner or have a mechanic scan it for you.
